James and Irene Hickman were expecting the birth of their child around the time that a category 4 hurricane was brewing in the Atlantic Ocean, August 1955. Giving them the name of their expected child “CONNIE”!
Mrs. Connie Mae Hickman Vereen was born on August 9, 1955, to the late James M. Hickman and Irene Hickman in Loris, South Carolina. She departed this life on September 19, 2023, at Seacoast Medical Center in Little River, SC.
She attended schools in the Horry County School District. Connie was converted at an early age and joined Flag Patch Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Dan Otis “Tex” Vereen, Grandmother Letha Hickman, Father James M. Hickman and Grandfather William J. Hickman. Uncles Rupert and Reverend Donnie Lee Hickman (Ella), James T. Green and Aunts Jane Ellen Hickman and Pernell Pierce; father-in-law William Vereen, mother-in-law Minnie Lee Vereen, sister-in-law Sally (Joe) Miller, brother-in-law Buck Vereen and Ernest “Shug” Vereen, Grandfather James Drayton, Grandmother Annie Bell Drayton, Sisters Vandale Davis, Velva Jean Davis, Aunt Ora Mae Drayton, Aunt Lee Mae (Cornelius “Boy”) Gore and Aunt Flodia (W.S.) Gause.
Left to cherish fondest memories, her Special Friend, Gary Holmes; daughter, Lisa Hickman (Chris) Lamb; Sons: William “Vashon” Hickman, Coty Vereen, Waydom “Wade” Vereen, Lewis “Treze” Hickman and Chancey Hickman. Sisters: ,Gloria Drayton, Audrey James, and Valerie “Val” Davis. Aunt, Doris Hickman and Uncle, William “WJ” Hickman, Jr. She also leaves to cherish a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
